Atlantic Captains Academy

We offer the following Coast Guard Approved Captain's Courses

Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV)

This license qualifies the operator to carrying not more than 6 passengers on vessels up to 100 gross tons (GT). Typical employment opportunities include charter boats, sailboats and excursion boats.

Master License

Required for operators of inspected passenger vessels, this license authorizes carrying more than six passengers. It opens opportunities on charter boats, sailboats, ferries, excursion vessels, and whale watch boats. Vessel size limits depend on your experience—25, 50, or 100 GT.

License Renewal

If a licensed captain lacks the required sea service time for renewal, they can instead complete a License Renewal Refresher Course and exam. Submitting certified course diploma, current drug test, and a current medical evaluation will allow you to meet the U.S. Coast Guard renewal requirements.

Online Assistance Towing Class

Add the Coast Guard Assistance Towing Endorsement to your OUPV or Master’s license to perform commercial towing for vessels that are disabled, aground, or in need of help— for hire. OUPV and Masters is recommended for this endorsement add-on.

Online Auxiliary Sailing

Earn your Auxiliary Sailing Endorsement and take command of inspected sailing vessels for hire. Open to licensed captains or those who’ve completed a Master’s Upgrade, this course covers the essentials of sailing theory, physics, rules of the road, and safety at sea.

Endorsements

Assistance Towing

This endorsement may be added to the Captain OUPV license or to the Master's license. The Captain or Master is allowed to operate a commercial assistance towing vessel.

Sail/Auxiliary Sail

The sail/auxiliary sail endorsement may be added to the master's license. At least half of required total sea time (180 or 360 days) must be onboard sail/auxiliary sail vessels. The Master is allowed to operate an auxiliary sail/auxiliary sail vessel.

Atlantic Captain's Academy Training Sites and Intructors

We are now conducting virtual online classes. Contact Captain Greg Metcalf if you would like more information regarding this new medium for your group. A live proctored exam at one of our approved Coast Guard sites is required at the conclusion of the course.
